Uranium stocks, live, through the Sprott miners fund

Uranium stocks here means URNM, the Sprott Uranium Miners fund, and the number on this page is a perpetual futures contract on that fund read live from Pacifica, which is a basket of mining companies rather than the uranium price itself.

Read from the exchange as this page rendered. URNM is the Sprott Uranium Miners fund, a basket of companies that mine and process uranium; the figure below is a perpetual future on that fund, not on the metal.

This is the miners, not the metal, and they are not the same trade

Uranium itself has no continuous public market of the kind oil or copper has. It is sold on long term contracts between utilities and producers, with a thinly traded spot price published by a handful of price reporting agencies. A fund of mining companies is the liquid way most people express the view, and it behaves differently: it carries operating leverage, country risk and equity beta that the commodity does not. A rising spot price with falling miners is an ordinary week, not a contradiction.

Utilities buy on contracts, so the price you hear is not what most uranium sells for

A reactor cannot pause its fuel purchases, so utilities sign multi year contracts and the spot market is the residual. That makes headline spot moves poor evidence about revenue at the companies in this basket, whose realised prices lag by years. When the seven-day chart above moves on a spot headline, it is usually sentiment repricing rather than earnings changing.

A basket concentrates more than it diversifies here

There are not many listed uranium producers at scale, so a miners fund is heavily weighted to a few names and a single operational problem at one of them moves the whole thing. Read the realised volatility above with that in mind: it is closer to a small number of mining equities than to a diversified index, and the cost to cross the book reflects the same thinness.

The part we cannot verify

Pacifica publishes the symbol, the live book and hourly candles. It does not publish how the URNM reference price is derived, nor the interval its funding rate settles over, so the funding figure above is per interval and not annualised. The price was checked against the fund's last published closing price when this page was built and agreed to within one percent.
