Memory is a commodity, so the stock is a cycle

Micron sells DRAM and NAND, which are close to interchangeable between suppliers. That makes the price of the product, not the cleverness of the company, the main driver of its margin, and memory prices move in long, violent cycles driven by how much capacity the three remaining large suppliers decided to build two years ago. Reading MU as a growth stock misses this. The realised volatility above is usually a read on where in that cycle the market thinks we are.

High-bandwidth memory changed the shape of the argument

The AI accelerator build-out consumes HBM, which is sold on long contracts rather than spot, and Micron is one of three suppliers. That gives part of the revenue a visibility the commodity part never had, and it is why the stock now reacts to hyperscaler capex announcements as well as to spot DRAM. When you see a large single-hour move on the chart above with no memory-price news, this is usually why.

This is not the Nasdaq last trade

A perpetual has no expiry, settles in cash, and gives you no share, no vote and no dividend. It trades continuously, so it prices Asian memory-market news overnight while Nasdaq is closed, which for a company with this supply chain is a genuine difference rather than a rounding error. For the official price use the exchange or a broker.

The part we cannot verify

Pacifica publishes the symbol, the book and hourly candles. It does not publish how the MU reference price is derived, nor its funding interval, so the funding figure above is per interval and not annualised. Read the venue's terms before trading it.
