A crypto portfolio tracker, and the number most of them get wrong
Most crypto portfolio trackers value a holding at the last traded price, which is the number you could sell one unit at rather than the number you could sell your position at, and the gap between those two is largest exactly when it matters most.
A crypto portfolio tracker adds up what you hold and shows what it is worth. The addition is simple; deciding what the numbers mean is not.
Last price is not exit value
A holding valued at the last trade assumes you can sell all of it there. In a deep market that is close enough to true. In a thin one, selling your position moves the price against you the whole way down, and the figure on your screen was never achievable. The tracker is not lying, it is answering a different question from the one you are asking.
Where the gap is widest
Small markets, large positions, and moments of stress, which unfortunately arrive together. A position that is two percent of a day's volume will not exit at the last price, and a portfolio page showing an unqualified total is at its least accurate precisely when someone is most likely to be looking at it.
What a better tracker shows
Depth alongside price. If it knows the order book, it can say what your position would actually realise, or at minimum flag which holdings are large relative to the market they sit in. That is not a hard calculation. It is simply one that most trackers do not attempt because the inputs are harder to get than a price.
Unrealised profit has the same problem
It is computed from the same last price, so a portfolio can show a gain that could not be realised. Worth reading as a direction rather than an amount, and worth being especially sceptical of on anything thinly traded.
